It was fun to have the 2nd and 3rd graders back at GATE, and we were also excited to have 4 new classmates join us today! Some of our day was used to get to know our new classmates and teach them a bit about the class and school. The rest of the time was spent trying our hand at some spidery artwork and updating our digital portfolios.
While some students thrived while working on a web-inspired circular weaving project, other students worked on a project where they learned to weave paper, drawing connections between the work of abstract artists and the precision and focus of spiders working on their webs. Next week, we will be creating some spider-inspired poetry, and crafting arguments to support our answers to the big questions:
Technology Needs: With our current class size and composition, we need at least 2 more responsible students to bring a personal or school-issued laptop to GATE class each week so that we have enough for each student. If you feel your child or student can handle the job of bringing a device to GATE, it would be a huge help if you could start sending it next week.
UPCOMING: There will be no GATE the week of November 29-December 3.
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
