This week, the fifth graders continued their study of personality and abstract art. They started their day by finishing their Neoplasticism (De Stijl) artwork from last week. They then read an article on the next Myers-Briggs pairing of Thinking versus Feeling and then learned about the Impressionism movement and the art style of pointillism. They thought deeply to translate Thinking or Feeling into their third art piece using pointillism.
We had a bit of extra time at the end of the day, so we got a head start and learned about Jackson Pollock's action art for next week's fourth and final piece. We will use washable paint, but it is probably a good idea for your 5th grader to not wear their best clothes next week, just in case there is a bit too much action to their art!
... due to the Facilitators providing GATE screenings at high needs Title One schools across the district. This is important work to help identify gifted children from underserved populations that might otherwise go unnoticed and not have their exceptional needs met. Thank you for understanding!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea), our own set of 6 classroom Tello drones ($150 ea) that we don't have to share, Rubiks Cubes ($12), and a hand-held vacuum cleaner! The 6th graders will also be going on THREE field trips this semester, and we will need one of the bus trips (~$100) covered by Foundation donations. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
