This week only half of our 5th graders made it to GATE due to an unfortunate bus mix-up, so we practiced adapting to unexpected change. Our 5th graders spent a good chunk of the day building and testing Foldscopes, which are origami microscopes that are manufactured for less than a dollar. We will be using these Foldscopes for our first unit of study!
The 5th graders that missed this week won't have missed any important lessons. They have been pushed back for next week.
Our GATE classroom has nine Chromebooks available to share, and there are currently three Lowell students in 5th grade GATE. That leaves us four devices short this first Quarter. Any students that are willing and able to bring a personal or school-issued device to GATE would be appreciated. If carrying a device on the bus/etc is not a good fit for your child's needs, they are more than welcome to use a class Chromebook on GATE days.
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
