On their first day back, the 4th graders learned about the James Webb Space Telescope. They worked hard to build an intricate model of the telescope, learned about the insane engineering that went into its development and deployment, and worked through an online interactive that taught them some of the differences between reflecting and refracting telescopes.
On the 17th, we started our bridge unit! The students will be working through Bridge Engineering University to learn about the physics of bridges as well as the aesthetic and cultural relevance of bridge design. The unit will culminate in a group bridge building competition where they complete to be the strongest, most aesthetically pleasing, and most efficient bridge.
Also, check out the photo below that shows the students getting a second semester pep talk from Broadway actress Nadia Brown who plays Rose Granger Weasley in New York City's Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the GATE classroom! There have been several anonymous donors who don't get to receive a fun thank you card in the mail, so please know how much we appreciate your generosity. We have already been able to get power tools, craft supplies, and TONS of Lego bricks! Two new drones will also be added to our fleet in time for the 5th/6th grade drone programming project!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
