Today at GATE the students expanded upon their work from last week where they brainstormed strategies for dealing with frustration and the Learning Pit. This week, the students designed "I'm Stuck!" posters that I will be printing and laminating for them to add to their GATE folders and use in their regular classroom as well.
In the afternoon, we started talking about failure strategies specifically... so, how can we look at failure as an opportunity rather than shutting down, giving up, or getting mad. The students tried a series of increasingly difficult drawing challenges that made it impossible to do perfectly. They then reflected on ways to turn the failure into a positive and came up with a good starter list: find humor, persist, think flexibly, and reflect and focus on what went right.
15+ 9+ shoe boxes (the ones that have the lid attached like a chest are best, but either work!)
30+ 20+ cardboard paper towel rolls
10+ 8+ cereal boxes
big bags of pretzels (for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade snacks)
big boxes of chewy granola bars (for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade snacks)
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
