This week, the 4th graders solidified their understanding of how neurons are composed and how they work. They played a game where they acted as neurons to send messages down a neural pathway and were glad their actual neurons are faster than they were!
They also created short skits to demonstrate the neurological process of a thought or a reflex including vocabulary such as sensory neuron and motor neuron.
In the afternoon, we thought about what is actually happening when we learn something (or unlearn it) and how we can strengthen our brain and practice neuroplasticity. We can build new and stronger neural pathways to improve social, emotional, athletic, and academic skills!
We finished the day with a OuiSi game to keep working on our conflict resolution and teamwork strategies. There was a marked improvement from last week, which speaks to the 4th graders' growth mindset!
UPCOMING: There will be no GATE the week of November 29-December 3.
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
