We spent the first part of the day developing the drone project success criteria as a class. When the students help define what a successful project needs, they take more ownership over the quality of the final project. After creating a rubric for the project and splitting into work groups, each group developed a team contract that outlined conflict resolution strategies, specialist positions, and anticipated potential pitfalls and their solutions. Then, they got to work!
This project will take at least the rest of the quarter to complete. It will require the students to write a story, plan and build an aerodynamic drone costume, code drone choreography, film the drone and any actors in action, and edit a video of the production. It will take a lot of work, but I love this type of huge project that requires students to constantly try new things, fail, compromise, and troubleshoot. I can't wait to see what they come up with!
Also, thank you so much to the families behind the scenes that helped the 5th graders plan the sweetest baby shower for me this afternoon. I really feel so supported by this community, and I appreciate it so much!
30+ 11+ cardboard paper towel rolls
10+ 2+ cereal boxes
big bags of pretzels (for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade snacks)
big boxes of chewy granola bars (for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade snacks)
Thank you so much for the donations we have already received!! For reference, once class typically eats half a bag of pretzels per GATE day. The more students bring their own snack to class, the less need to be provided through donation. Thanks!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
