What a difference a week makes! Today we had a sunny and fantastic time on the student-planned, student-led field trip around Downtown Boise. We started our day at the capitol building where we got to see the rotunda, committee rooms, and even walk on the House floor and hear a bit from District 19 Idaho State Representative and GATE mom, Lauren Necochea. Student leaders then took us to Freak Alley for a photo opportunity followed by the Basque Block. We were then led to the Grove Plaza by our sports folks to see the Idaho Central Arena. From there, we got lunch at Guido's Pizza and dessert at Stella's Ice Cream. We finished the day by relaxing at Cecil D. Andrus Park.
I am so thankful to be in this position and to have gotten to meet and work with your children this year! Even though there is no longer specific GATE programming through junior high and high school, please know that I am still an advocate for your child and you can always reach out if you need help finding resources for the needs of gifted adolescents. Reach out to GATE supervisor helga.frankenstein@boiseschools.org if you would like information on accessing the extensive GATE Parent Lending Library or book recommendations.
I'll be sending out an optional parent feedback survey later this week. Happy summer and thank you so much for the support this year!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the Lowell GATE Classroom Fund this year! Your donations have purchased 2 drone kits, tons of art and engineering supplies, 5 field microscopes, and 5 huge Lego sets! I have my eye on some more Rubik's cubes (thank you to the family that donated some old ones!!), math/strategy challenges, and some storage bins that better fit the cabinets.
Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account.
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
