After a lot of planning, troubleshooting, and flexible working, the 4th graders have finished their hero's journey crankie projects! All students (apart from those that have missed one or both of the last two weeks) should have their project reflections posted on their Book Creator portfolios. Today, as a few students finished up their crankie projects and reflections, the other students received a lesson in giving productive feedback. They practiced giving crankie project feedback that was kind, specific, and that sandwiched criticism with positives.
We then filled the rest of the day with an engineering challenge as the last couple students finished their projects. We started with a brainstorming activity called "This looks like a ...., but it's actually a...." where the students were given a random object nd had to imagine it as something new. Then we reviewed the Engineering Design Process. The students were given the challenge to create something awesome using toilet paper tubes as the main material. They went through the process and documented their experience on their portfolios if they had time.
Next week, we will start our final unit of the year!
Adults who would be willing to video chat or stop by the 1st grade class and share about their career, especially if it is a STEM career! If you are willing to hold a Q and A with the students, I can design classwork to accompany your job. Or, if you would like to teach the students something, that's great too! Last year, we had fun learning about architecture, wildlife biology, computer coding, and several other careers. I can't wait to see what we can put together for the students this year!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
