ABOVE: If you have expertise on any of the 5th grade student research topics and would be willing to be interviewed as part of their research process, please let me know and I will help facilitate a phone call or email exchange!
For our last few weeks of GATE (except next week when we have a special guest instructor!) the 5th graders will be working on a Genius Hour project. Genius Hour was made popular by innovative companies such as Google that encourage their employees to spend up to 20% of their work time, developing a passion project. In fact, this is how Gmail was created!
The students are working through the 5 stages of Genius Hour: Choose a topic, develop a research question, perform meaningful research, create a project, and share your findings and experience. This week, students completed steps 1 and 2 and at least got a good lead on step 3. Next week, we will have a special guest teacher working with us on some environmental science. The following two weeks will be used for finishing research on completing the project portion, and the final GATE class will be for sharing projects, reflecting, and celebrating an amazing year of GATE!
The last class will be May 16th.
Time is ticking for the 1980 pasta puzzle to be completed...
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea), craft supplies of all sorts, and Rubik's Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
