This week, our 2nd and 3rd graders continued their mini research projects that they started last week. Each student chose a topic that they find beautiful and sparks their curiosity. They then developed six questions about the topic to guide their research. For students who haven't done much research before, we worked on research skills. For the pros who finished the work independently, they extended their work by creating a visual aid to help teach others about their topic. Then, each student presented their research and visual aid to the class. It was so cool to learn about amazing topics such as Saint Elmo's fire, the aurora borealis, bioluminescence, and even bugs!
We were also able to start an art project that we will finish next week that will showcase some of the natural and human-made wonders of the world. Next week, we will also start our main unit study of SPIDERS!
**Students also practiced getting onto a Google Classroom video call. This will mostly be used in case we have to go virtual at all through the year. Students can access the Google Classroom on their MyApps page or the Google App "waffle" and can join the video meeting by clicking the Meet Link on the Classroom Banner.
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
