The 3rd graders started their day with their first ever GATE Question du jour. Each week after our morning meeting, the class will be given a question about a GATE-specific topic. The students will have 3 minutes to write or draw about their response to the question. They will then have 5 minutes to share with their table team and summarize their understanding on one of our vertical whiteboards. Then we will take up to 10 minutes to discuss as a class and pull strategies and advice about the topic.
This week's question was "What does it mean to be labeled as 'gifted?'" The discussion led to the sharing of strategies to use when someone says something along the lines of "How don't you know that?! I thought you were gifted!" Some go-to responses they came up with were, "Everyone makes mistakes and has to take time to learn something new," and "Being gifted just means that your brain works differently than many people, not that you you know everything."
We also read through some of the points made in this article as a group.
The 3rd graders finished reflecting on their Invention Convention work and giving feedback to their classmates today. Next week, we will start a new unit focused on growth mindset using art and sewing as a way to practice this learned skill!

The classroom is low on shared snacks for students that need but don't bring a snack on their GATE day. These are especially important for our 4th grade class that doesn't have lunch until 1:00pm and our 1st grade class that doesn't have lunch until 12:45pm! Individually-wrapped, low-mess snacks like chewy granola bars seem to work best. Thanks for any donations!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education. A big purchase, I have my eye on is a set of classroom cameras for the 3rd grade photography unit and to help other students with self-expression and documenting the progress of their project work.
If you would like to help fund our tech needs, supplies for students, brain puzzles, etc, please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. I upgraded and added a ton of classroom supplies this summer with donations from last year, so thank you so much for those donations! [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
