This week the 5th graders were broken into their drone project teams. They will work with these teams for the next 5-6 weeks to produce a costumed and choreographed drone performance! They first designed the rubric for the project by reflecting on what they have learned so far and how they want to be challenged throughout the project. Check out the student-designed rubric here. They then developed a team contract, which will be a critical tool when conflict arises. After that, they were able to just get to work planning their storyboard, costumes, and overall vision for their performance. The ideas range from a dragon's search for lunch, to a Hamilton music video, to a story of ice cream cones in love. I can't wait to see the projects as they come to life!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the GATE classroom! There have been several anonymous donors who don't get to receive a fun thank you card in the mail, so please know how much we appreciate your generosity. We have already been able to get power tools, craft supplies, and TONS of Lego bricks! Two new drones will also be added to our fleet in time for the 5th/6th grade drone programming project!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
