Pinning layers together before sewing
This week, we started our final art project in our unit aimed at helping students develop resiliency, help themselves when stuck, and pick appropriate levels of challenge in their work. For the rest of the quarter, we will be working on sewing projects. Today, we started with the basics, which was a practice in patience for students with some sewing background. The most important Habits of Mind for these students are "remaining open to continuous learning" and "striving for accuracy." Some of our sewing veterans chose to rush through their work or rely on past experiences rather than taking their time and learning new techniques and skills.
For our new sewers, they most need to work on the Habits of Mind of "persisting" and "thinking interdependently." It's okay to use the resource of your classmates! We can get through the Learning Pit faster together!
Next week, we should finish our monster stuffies, and then students will be able to design their own stuffy design while applying what they learned (or pushing the limits of) this first project's lessons.

As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
