For our last few weeks of GATE the 5th graders will be working on a Genius Hour project. Genius Hour was made popular by innovative companies such as Google that encourage their employees to spend up to 20% of their work time, developing a passion project. In fact, this is how Gmail was created!
The students are working through the 5 stages of Genius Hour: Choose a topic, develop a research question, perform meaningful research, create a project, and share your findings and experience. This week, students completed steps 1 and 2 and at least got a good lead on step 3. The following 3 weeks will be used for finishing research and completing the project portion, and the final GATE class will be for sharing projects, reflecting, and celebrating an amazing year of GATE!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education. A big purchase, I have my eye on is a set of classroom cameras for the 3rd grade photography unit and to help other students with self-expression and documenting the progress of their project work.
If you would like to help fund our tech needs, supplies for students, brain puzzles, etc, please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. I upgraded and added a ton of classroom supplies this summer with donations from last year, so thank you so much for those donations! [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
