This week in drone land, students learned all about TROUBLESHOOTING. It turns out when you have $99 drones, things don't always go according to plan on the first try. This was actually a fantastic opportunity for the students to practice problem solving and keeping their cool in the face of frustration. They were able to learn from each other, teach each other, and encourage each other with resounding success! With code, drones, and resilience in tow, the 5th graders headed to the gym in the afternoon for an exhilarating hour of flying drones with code they wrote! We were all surprised at how well the drones performed the programming, and we are super excited for the rest of the unit. For their final project, students will explore the relationship between art and technology by creating a choreographed and costumed drone performance video.
And in case you missed it, the James Webb Space Telescope reached its final location on Monday afternoon! We'll keep tabs on it until the first pictures are *hopefully* released in May!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the GATE classroom! There have been several anonymous donors who don't get to receive a fun thank you card in the mail, so please know how much we appreciate your generosity. We have already been able to get power tools, craft supplies, and TONS of Lego bricks! Two new drones will also be added to our fleet in time for the 5th/6th grade drone programming project!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
