Broadway Rave announced that they were doing an event on a boat, so Irvin wanted a thematically appropriate costume... and the only obvious choice was Celine Dion from Titanique.
Irvin has been a huge Celine Dion fan all his life, as seen in the press. So he was very much the target audience for Titanique, and adored the show both times he'd seen it. For the costume, aside from the ineffable Celine Dion attitude, Irvin needed to procure two things - an appropriately fabulous dress, and the Heart of the Ocean.
The latter was easy - they were being sold in Titanic Belfast when Irvin went to that museum a few months earlier, and he'd had the foresight to buy.
The dress proved harder - apparently, glittering dresses with high slits have all vanished from Manhattan's thrirft stores. Luckily, in the sixth thrift store Irvin went to, one in Queens, the owner found the perfect dress, and she and Irvin developed quite the bond as they both tried to squeeze Irvin into it. The dress is great, just as long as Irvin doesn't gain another pound.
Irvin's friend Maya joined in the fun as Rose, and they danced all over the Ship of Dreams and got photos from every angle. The one Irvin was most excited about was to capture Rose floating on the door when the ship goes down, and they managed to pull it off!
Would Jack have fit on this door?
They called it the Ship of Dreams... And it was, it really was.
While Celine and Rose were missing their Jack unfortunately, they did manage to recruit some more characters. Darren Criss happened to be on the boat for the party as well, and since he was a sailor, Irvin wasted no time in getting a photo with him! He then recruited Mia (Darren's wife) to fill the role of Victor Garber in their photo shoot - if Mia was going to come dressed as a captain, it only makes sense for her to be the captain!

When Titanique announced its closing off-Broadway, Irvin corralled a large group of friends to go to the closing - and, naturally, had to reprise Celine Dion for the occasion. He was therefore very popular at the show, given that the theater was largely filled with superfans. Maya also reprised Rose, and Nathaniel stepped in as Jack, so Celine had the couple she needed to insert herself between.
This Celine really belongs on a poster!

Afterwards, Irvin got to meet the cast and creators. There was so much mutual excitement, and many many photos taken! Afterwards, Marla Mindelle posted on Instagram the photo with the caption that she'd met the real Celine Dion... ironically the same thing Irvin was telling people upon getting a photo with her!
