For Irvin's aunt Leah's seventieth birthday bash, the party theme was "Working Girls." Irvin immediately seized on 9 to 5 as the perfect topic for their performance. His aunt immediately said that he would be Dolly Parton's character (duh), and she would be the boss. Given their colossal height difference (and the role reversal of who was wearing heels), it made for a potent combo.
They did a performance to the titular song "9 to 5," where Doralee demanded a promotion, and the avaricious boss refused her. Irvin's cousin and Leah's friend were recruited to fill out the rest of the 9 to 5 trio. The performance can be seen below, along with some mighty fetching family portraits!
While the audience may not have been wholly familiar with the movie in question (shocking and appalling Irvin with their ignorance), the costumes themselves proved a huge hit, with a long receiving line after the performance for photos of the the pair. It helped that in his heels, Irvin's boobs were the perfect height for folks to rest their heads on.
But perhaps the funniest part was when Irvin ducked into a stairwell to change out of Doralee, and a waitress walking by offered to help unzip him. Upon completing the assist, she said, "After all, us girls gotta stick together!" Female solidarity is a beautiful thing.
