Fenrir Greyback

Costume Debut: April 2018

Costume Reprised: August 2018

When TGTSNBN announced a meetup to go to "Knockturn Alley," Irvin cast about for a creepy character he had not yet cosplayed. He landed on one of HP's most repugnant characters, Fenrir Greyback... and nearly bit off more than he could chew (pun intended).

Everything below the neck wasn't too difficult. He tore a t-shirt and glued fur on at the rips to represent Fenrir's copious body hair, and made the shirt look filthier by applying coffee.

Much more time went into making Fenrir's fangs - Irvin found a kit that would mold the fangs to his actual teeth, and spent the hours between 2am and 3:30am the night before doing just that. Rather to his amazement, it actually worked, and he spent all day talking with a lisp around the fangs. (He conceded defeat at the post-meetup dinner, however, because the fangs just would not mix well with Polish food.)

For the scarring on Fenrir's face, Irvin found a chemical solution that locally dehydrates areas of skin - which sounded terrifying, but looked really cool.

But the worst part was not fangs, but the facial hair. Facial hair is, simply put, the worst. Irvin abandoned his plans of a furry face after getting into a fight with spirit gum and losing. In the end, a small beard offered enough suggestion of facial hair (and actually stuck to the spirit gum), and the wig rounded out the illusion.

With leather jackets and big hair, there is a fine line between menacing and boy band, and Irvin toed that line throughout the day. The costume was definitely fun to wear, but it's one of the most high maintenance of all of Irvin's HP cosplays.

That summer, TGTSNBN went on a haunted trolley tour of Brooklyn, on the night of a full moon. Despite misgivings, Irvin was convinced to bring back Fenrir... despite the heat making the leather jacket unwearable, and despite Irvin's abiding enmity with spirit gum. It was still mostly worth it, purely for when the Group went to a local macaroon shop afterwards and staged some really ridiculous photo ops. Fenrir ended up biting and fighting everyone there, one after another, and there were even a few photos of Fenrir sipping apple cider in his downtime (harder than it looks with fangs!).
