Disney Channel Games
Costume Debut: July 2024
For the DIsney DJ Night in July 2024, to go with the summer vibes, Irvin participated in a large group costume with his friends for the Disney Channel Games - an iconic bit of Disney Channel pop culture in 2006-2008. Based on no more than color preferences, Irvin represented the Yellow Team (aka the Comets in 2008). As seen below, there were at least two players present per team, so the entire project was well-represented.
The key, beyond the t-shirt from Etsy and yellow shorts, was the small nods to the participants of the original games. All of them wore colored sweatbands, which proved very appropos in the sweltering July heat. But Irvin also needed a wig with an epic swoop of hair across the forehead, as was the style with a majority of the Disney Channel's stars in the era. The efforts did not go unnoticed, as everyone immediately recognized what would be (depressingly) called a "period-appropriate wig."
It ended up being a truly great night, even by the high standards of Disney DJ Nights - when the party ended early, Irvin and his friends ended up going to karaoke and singing a further two hours of Disney deep cuts! And Disney DJ Night itself was awesome - Irvin ended up on stage to perform the (era-appropriate) "Hoedown Throwdown" for a cheering audience. It must be said, attending Disney DJ Night in sneakers and shorts with pockets was a very comfortable and very novel experience for Irvin! Lots of pictures of the event can be seen here.
