Neville Longbottom

Costume Debut: February 2010

Costume Reprised: May 2010, Aeternitas 2011, April 2014

In February of 2010, TGTSNBN had a meetup called "Letters to Won-Won," where the members made Valentine's Day cards for their most beloved characters. To really get into character when writing a valentine to Luna Lovegood, Irvin cosplayed as Neville Longbottom. Since Irvin is incredibly skinny, he cosplayed the battle-hardened Neville at the end of Book 7, complete with scars and a black eye from the Carrows, the Sword of Gryffindor, and Trevor hanging out of his pocket. His idea worked, and he made a splendid valentine for Luna, complete with glitter glue, an original poem, and titled "Love Me Luna" based on the song by Swish and Flick.

He was asked to reprise the outfit that May as past of a promotional video the Group was making. Irvin donned the outfit and ran amok in the NYC subway, swinging his sword every which way and hitting on the girl cosplaying Luna.

A year later, at Aeternitas, Irvin gave a presentation about how Neville and Luna should have ended up together. Naturally, no presentation is complete without dressing as the subject, so Irvin donned his Neville outfit again. The presentation, despite being the very last of the academic programming at Aeternitas, nevertheless found an audience and ended up a success. While still dressed as Neville, Irvin seized the opportunity to be tortured by Death Eaters for some cosplay photos.

The costume then lay abandoned for three years. But when TGTSNBN announced a cosplay day at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, it was a no-brainer to come dressed as Neville. Luckily, a Luna and an Augusta Longbottom were also present, leading to some absolutely adorable family portraits. The garden provided a perfect backdrop for photos of Neville - working with plants, taking awkward prom photos with Ginny (as an homage to the Yule Ball), or just reclining on the garden path.
