King Arthur

Costume Debut: April 2024

Singing with the Lady of the Lake (Maya) behind a Camelot showgirl (Sarah).

Irvin was a big fan of Spamalot on Broadway, and had already seen it thrice when his friend Sarah said she wanted to catch it again before the 2023-24 revival closed.  Moreover, she wanted to dress up for it!

This was the type of plan Irvin could get behind!  However, buried in the thick of tax season, he didn't have time to pull together a proper costume on a week's notice.  So he made a deal: he would wait in the rush line to get tickets for the closing performance, and Sarah would pull together the costume!

All parts of the plan worked out as they were meant to!  Irvin got the tickets, and Sarah brought King Arthur's signature tunic, a belt, and a homemade crown.  She came as a Camelot showgirl herself, and their friend Maya joined as the Lady of the Lake (as seen above).

At the theater, the employees were excited to see them, and several theatregoers were confused as to whether they were part of the show.  They made sure to get plenty of photos all around the theater.

After the show, Irvin waited at the stage door to meet the cast, whose eyes lit up when they saw King Arthur standing in the crowd.  He even got a picture (seen below) with James Monroe Iglehart, who played Arthur in the show, marking the second time Irvin got photos with him in costume at a stagedoor.  And the other fans frequently commented (or often genuflected) to Irvin, in awe of the dedication it takes to come see a Broadway show in costume.  (If only they knew!)

Note: Not to be confused with King Arthur from BBC's Merlin TV show!

With James Monroe Iglehart, the King Arthur on Broadway.
