In honor of Universal Harry Potter Day 2010, a day in February members of TGTSNBN like to celebrate their love for HP, Irvin cosplayed Draco Malfoy. This caused a lot of fangirling at the time, with many claiming that this was his best cosplay yet, and an almost-unanimous agreement among the women of TGTSNBN that it was the hottest. Accessorizing is always key, so Irvin had Inquisitorial Squad and prefect badges, a Hand of Glory, and an opal necklace. An entire photoshoot was done by the Brooklyn Bridge, with several other cosplayers. Among the scenes acted out was McGonagall slapping Draco, and Draco rolling about to imitate the Very Potter Musical version of the character.
The Draco outfit was worn again the following day for TGTSNBN's 200th Meetup Celebration, where Irvin performed with the Dancing Death Eaters in it, and won his first McClaggens contest. Draco was worn for a third time the following weekend when Irvin went to Harry Potter: The Exhibition. Many workers commented on his fabulous outfit, and even little kids recognized him as Draco Malfoy.
He reprised Draco but slightly differently a year later for a Dancing Death Eaters performance at NYU.
Four years later, Draco made a cameo appearance when Irvin went to the Wizarding World in Florida. While not strictly allowed to cosplay in the theme park, Irvin wore his Slytherin robes. When he went down Knockturn Alley, he briefly donned a blond wig to get a photo with the Vanishing Cabinet. This kind of sneaking around seems very appropriate to be doing in Knockturn Alley!
Irvin went as Draco the first time he participated in TGTSNBN's time-honored tradition of going ice skating in wizard robes (in 2015). The outfit was a perfect excuse to be really nasty to children, who seemed utterly thrilled by it - one little girl decided Irvin was her new best friend, showing off her ice skating and introducing him to her mother. By virtue of the other cosplayers present, there was a good amount of Draco/Ginny shipping going on that day.
Irvin got a good amount of use out of Draco in the spring of 2018. First, he brought him to the first New Haven HP Pop-Up Festival. It was a very relaxed affair, which provided the opportunity for some fun photos of Draco lounging around and being mean to Hufflepuffs. Unusually, there was a Mad-Eye Moody cosplayer present, so Irvin even got to take a photo of a traumatized Draco crouching next to a Moody (who'd clearly just turned him into a ferret and back).
When Team StarKid's Lauren Lopez starred in a show Off-Broadway in 2018 (the Tin Can Bros' Solve-It Squad), Irvin took the opportunity to reprise the costume - after all, his rendition of Draco always skewed somewhat close to the Very Potter version of the character. Seen right is Irvin with the original AVPM Draco, Lauren Lopez.
Draco made his much-delayed convention debut at MISTI-Con 2019, worn for the purpose of Irvin's presentation about The Foreshadowing of Borgin & Burkes (since much of it was about what Draco saw in B&B). This was finally a chance for Irvin to get photos of Draco with the Hand of Glory and other such props! He also ran into a horde of Weasleys, which provided for some very funny photos of a thoroughly disgruntled Draco.
Since Draco is an instantly recognizable character, Irvin wore him to an NYOP Meetup in September 2023, when the group went to see the Harry Potter Exhibition during its NYC run. It provided for some entertaining photo ops, such as a recreation of the films' moment when Draco is squeamish with mandrakes during Herbology.
Irvin's second book was all about Draco - Malfoy. So for the book launch, Irvin would obviously come dressed as Draco Malfoy. For the very special occasion, Irvin thought the cosplay needed to be zhuzhed up a little - particularly the wig, which was more AVPM-Draco than a book-accurate sleek blonde hairdo. For the very special occasion, Irvin got his first ever human hair wig (at what was admittedly a fantastic bargain price). He then found that among his many cosplay skills, styling hair was not among them, and spent the better part of half a day wrestling with the wig, a bottle of hair gel, and hairpins. It came out slightly more bouffant than intended, but at least everyone got what he was going for.
As always, accessories are key. Irvin had amassed quite the collection of Draco-specific pins, to include a peacock and a "Potter Stinks" badge. He also showed up with a bag of green apples, in homage to the iconic Drapple ship - at the end of the night, this led to a highly entertaining couple photo shoot of Draco with the apples, as seen to the left.
One of Irvin's pet theories espoused in the book is that Draco Malfoy is a werewolf, and he chose to make that the focal point of his presentation at CONjuration 2025 - "Draco Malfoy Is a Werewolf." To best illustrate the point that was being made, he showed up in a regular Draco Malfoy costume. As the presentation went on, without pausing a sentence or breaking strike, Irvin slowly put on the werewolf paws on his feet, then his hands, and finally the wolf mask. Suddenly attendees were looking at a distinctly wolfy Draco Malfoy presenting the panel! The bit received much appreciation - and fortunately, no one seemed to expect the subsequent book signing to happen with wolf paws, and so forgave Irvin when, after a couple photos, he turned back into a human Draco Malfoy.
Draco proved to be a fun costume considering the other characters who were around. Anytime he runs into a Bellatrix, he has Aunt Bella pulling Draco by the ear to bring him in line. Even better, at CONjuration, Irvin ran into a really good Voldemort cosplayer, and had the chance to recreate the awkward hug from the movie that haunts fans to this day.
