The first few months of 2016 were given over to binge-reading the entirety of Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles, and Irvin fell absolutely in love with those books. So that November, when Marissa Meyer came to NYC to promote her new book, Irvin decided to dress up for the occasion. He cosplayed his favorite character, Captain Carswell Thorne, and convinced his friend Britney to be Cresswith him. The costume was simple, since the clothes are mostly ordinary, coupled with a hoodie that had military embellishments. But the most important touch was the bandages around his eyes, from when Thorne and Cress were stranded in the desert and Thorne was temporarily blinded.

It was a little difficult to see through them, but worth it for the adulation of the Lunartics, who demanded the couple stand still while they kept snapping photos. Marissa Meyer was sufficiently impressed, because no Thorne cosplayer had ever done the blind version before. Irvin and Britney even ended up in a Publishers Weekly article about the book tour.
