Anthony Lockwood

Costume Debut: November 2016

One of Irvin's favorite authors is Jonathan Stroud, of the Bartimaeus and Lockwood and Co. series. In November 2016, he was part of a spate of authors visiting NYC to promote books, in this case the fourth Lockwood book, The Creeping Shadow. Having binged the entire series earlier that year, Irvin decided to cosplay for the occasion as the titular Anthony Lockwood. He used Janet's longtime love of the Bartimaeus books to convince her to dress up as Lucy Carlyle.

It was a fairly intimate event at Books of Wonder, given it was taking place on Election Day. Fortunately, the excitement felt by Irvin and Janet was reciprocated by Jonathan Stroud and his team. Jonathan Stroud immediately asked for photos together. Better yet, once the event started and Jonathan was introducing the book series, he called up Irvin and Janet as a visual aid in presenting the series.

Fortunately, Irvin's cosplaying includes a lot of attention to detail, so there were visual aids in place for all the necessary world-building. Lockwood's trench coat, silver or iron swords, silver chains, and a whispering skull in a jar were all present. (The best part is that every aspect of the this costume was already lying around Irvin's apartment.) It was, all in all, one of the coolest author interactions of the many Irvin's had.
