Albus Dumbledore

          Costume Debut: January 2013

Costume Reprised: MISTI-Con 2013, May 2014, MISTI-Con 2015, June 2016, MISTI-Con 2017

The Dancing Death Eaters were doing a new number set to the song "Dear J.K. Rowling," which is all about Dumbledore.  So, naturally, Irvin dressed up as Dumbledore.  The video was a great success, and involved a steamy romance with no less than four other characters.  In the process, Irvin learned how dreadfully uncomfortable facial hair is - it remains his least favorite cosplay element to this day.  The costume was reprised for a live performance of "Dear J.K. Rowling" at Avada KedavRock! 2014.

Four months later, this costume was reprised at MISTI-Con 2013, this time with a Fawkes on the shoulder.  Irvin gave a presentation about what Dumbledore was scheming in the latter books, Dumbledore's Deadly Plans, dressed as Dumbledore and in character for most of it.  Because it went so well, Irvin did the same thing at MISTI-Con 2015, giving a presentation (Albus Dumbledore and the Sorcerer's Stone, about what Dumbledore's machinations were in the first book) in the first person and in costume.  Not one to break with tradition, Irvin did another one at MISTI-Con 2017 (Severus... Please..., about the Dumbledore/Snape relationship), which morphed into Dumbledore doing a stand-up routine when the Q&A portion got very sassy.

Irvin brought Dumbledore to TGTSNBN's character discussion series as well, in June 2016, where the Group discussed Dumbledore under Irvin's moderation.

Costume Debut: July 2018

Costume Reprised: October 2018, Leviosa 2019, November 2019, November 2021

In 2018, Irvin published his first book, all about the enigmatic headmaster: The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore.  Since this would necessitate a lot of Dumbledore cosplay going forward, Irvin heavily invested in a fancier Dumbledore, as befits a published author.  He got a midnight-blue robe in London with a few stars and celestial symbols on it, and a blue velvet hat with stars off of Etsy.  Because the robe was more of a bathrobe than a dress, one could tie it for a cinched waist - much more flattering for a tall and slim build like Dumbledore's.  These items were paired with a much nicer wig and beard (that Irvin could actually talk through), and thigh-high black boots.  Once the ensemble was completed, there was no denying that "Dumbledore's got style."

The new and improved Dumbledore debuted at the book's Launch Party on July 31st, 2018, and was much appreciated.  (In fact, no less than two of the questions in the Q&A revolved around Dumbledore's style.)  While the warmth of the costume (the beard is to blame) makes it impractical for long cosplay days, it's a perfect fit for an event that's an hour long or so.  And since there was a rendition of "Dear J.K. Rowling" at the launch party, we now know that the costume holds up to dancing.

The costume was reprised, as expected, at the next event Irvin had to promote his book: Chestnut Hill's Harry Potter Conference in October.  At the event, one of the other cosplaying presenters (a superb Tom Riddle) commented that Irvin's Dumbledore put her to shame.  Though it must be said, the Dumbledore costume slowly melted off throughout the day as Irvin got fed up with the heat: first the beard, and then the wig.  On the upside, it'll be excellent for winter events promoting the book!

Irvin brought Dumbledore to Leviosa 2019, where he delivered another of his presentations about the headmaster: The Tools and Talents of Albus Dumbledore.  He also got to sell books in his Dumbledore outfit - it served as a very effective promotional tool!

Dumbledore now shows up in most of Irvin's creative endeavors, whether promoting the book or performing with the Dancing Death Eaters.  He returned for Avada KedavRock! 2019 for a reprisal of "Dear J.K. Rowling," to much hooting and hollering.

Dumbledore appeared at CONjuration 2021, to deliver another presentation and promote the new edition of the book: Dumbledore is Death: The Tale of Three Brothers in Parallel to Harry Potter.  Naturally, this was followed by a book signing!
