Narissa

Costume Debut: Halloween 2022

Irvin's friend Sarah has a gorgeous costume for Giselle from Enchanted. When they were planning to go to a Little Mermen concert, Sarah asked Irvin to do an Enchanted costume with her... but since it was the weekend of Halloween, Irvin insisted on doing a villain costume. Ergo, Queen Narissa!

Truth be told, it was slightly overambitious for the timeframe allotted (considering Irvin was working on his actual Halloween costume at the same time). Irvin got a whole bunch of shimmery blue fabric to create the bottom of a skirt with, a corset that he spray-painted blue to create the top, lacy black fabric for the sleeves, and an apple to set off the whole look.

The first problem was the tiara, which was heavy as hell (since it had to be big enough to make a statement) and gave Irvin a splitting headache during the night. The bigger problem is that the outfit, which looked great upon being put on, more-or-less fell to pieces as soon as Irvin moved. Past that, Irvin was yanking and pulling and pinning the outfit for the remainder of the night.

Nonetheless, the outfit was thoroughly appreciated by the crowds! Irvin first went to a rooftop party at the NYPL, where he got to take photos in sinister lighting among trees, and with the skyscrapers of NYC as a backdrop. He did not advance in the costume contest, but judging by the number of attendees who seemed convinced that Irvin would (or should) win, it's safe to say he was a crowd favorite.

At the Little Mermen concert, Irvin danced as well as he could without the costume falling apart, but at least Narissa got to chase Giselle around with a poison apple and generally menace her at every opportunity.
