Hello, My name is Jackie Alcoran. I'm Ewa Beach born and raised! I attended James Campbell High School and transferred from Leeward Community College. If I were an artist's tool, I would be a calligraphy pen because it's unconventional and toes the line between art and the technical craft of writing. It takes a while to learn, but if you do take the time to learn how the pen works, you'll be amazed at all the beautiful things you could create together.
The visual design of a local event promotion website can enhance community engagement by facilitating the discovery process between residents and local small businesses and events. To do so, this platform will prioritize user-friendly navigation, aesthetically compelling layouts, and strategic event promotion. This platform will allow people to discover and share stories, knowledge, and feedback in a seamless user experience, which would make it more likely for people to engage with the content and, by extension, the businesses and events shared on the site. As the number of small businesses in Hawaii continues to rise, there is a clear need for a comprehensive directory to help residents discover local events and vendors. Currently, the lack of such a resource makes it challenging for potential customers to connect with small businesses, emphasizing the necessity of a well-designed, visually engaging platform to bridge this gap.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
Jackie designed connection into every click with a custom-built website protytpe aimed at promoting local events and small businesses in Hawai‘i. With intuitive navigation, compelling layouts, and a focus on storytelling, her site bridges the gap between residents and the growing number of small businesses across the islands—offering a much-needed digital space where community and commerce thrive together.
