Hi! My name is Alyssa and I grew up in Ewa Beach, HI. I attended James Campbell High School and went to UH Manoa after I graduated. I went through five different majors but ultimately decided that I loved being creative the most. In 2021, I transferred from UH Manoa to UH West Oahu and absolutely loved the creative media program here. At UHWO, I'll be working for the Disability Services Office as an ADA assistant until I graduate and I've tried to be involved with the numerous events that have happened on campus. I'll miss this campus a lot! If I were an artist's tool, I'd be an easel because I would describe myself as a very supportive person and I would have anyone's back, just like as easel supports the item that is being displayed.
The sexualization and exploitation of minors are increasing at an alarming rate. Sexualization and exploitation of minors can happen simultaneously or occur separately. Various media, such as TV shows and video games, sometimes portray minors in an overtly sexualized manner which can lead to the exploitation of the minors. Exploiting minors can come in the form of Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM). In the case of CSEM, CSEM users falsely believe that real children are not being sexualized and exploited. In order to prevent more minors from being sexualized and exploited, the reasoning behind why people sexualize minors must be addressed. This essay explores how media outlets contribute to the increasing rates by depicting minors as adult-like sex objects, how these depictions impact minors negatively, and possible solutions to help this ongoing problem.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
