Hi everyone! My name is Noah Dods Medeiros. I was born on Lanai, spent a few years on Molokai, and grew up in Kahului, Maui. After graduating from Saint Anthony High School in 2019 with a class of 11, I earned an Associate's degree in Creative Media (Film) at UH Maui College before transferring to UHWO. My passion for video production began in high school, making funny videos with friends and cringey but entertaining YouTube content. I enjoy experimenting with different types of video content, following my creative instincts, and breaking artistic rules along the way. If I were an artist's tool, I’d be a camera! A camera requires balance—aperture, shutter, and ISO must work together to capture the perfect photo. Similarly, I need to balance my mental, creative, and physical elements to create work I’m proud of. Mastering this balance allows me to align my vision with my actions, just as an artist must master their tool to bring their ideas to life.
The COVID-19 pandemic popularized distance learning as a viable alternative for students. This research advocates for expanding distance learning at UH West Oʻahu and across higher education, addressing challenges such as unequal access to resources, networking, and student club participation compared to in-person students. Proposed solutions include making institutional activities more distance-friendly, fostering online communities, and integrating distance students into clubs. This research will inform the creation of a virtual video toolkit for current and incoming distance students, offering strategies to enhance their learning experience.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
