Hello, my name is Kaci Koizumi. I have grown up on O‘ahu all my life. I used to live in Ewa before moving to Pearl City. I have attended schools in the area and eventually graduated from Pearl City High School. I went straight into my college career at University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu after graduating from high school in 2020. During my college career I have worked towards my degree in Creative Media, and I have recently added on a degree in Humanities as well. If I were an artist’s tool I would probably be a pencil. This is the beginning tool for all artists and where ideas tend to start. It gets work done when needed, and it allows for mistakes as you can use an eraser and start again if necessary. I find that to be very similar to me as I get the job done, and while I make mistakes here and there, I don’t let that discourage me. I just erase and start again!
The benefits of having children engage with poetry have been long overlooked. Various studies conducted by teachers and youth programs have concluded that interaction with poetry can help. The results point toward educational development, improvement in emotional well-being, connection to self-identity, improved empathy, and more. The engagement children have with poetry show their intellectual abilities of understanding and applying the knowledge they absorb. This literary form should become a more common tool for children to have in their toolboxes.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
