Hello, My name is Titan Funai. An aspiring creative who loves to experiment. I grew up in Waipio. I attended Pearl City High School and transferred from Leeward Community College to UH West-O‘ahu. If I were an artist's tool, I would be a focus motor because I have special talent when it comes to helping others see what is right in front of them. I strive to be someone others feel comfortable talking to, sharing with, and being challenged by because communication is the process toward focus.
The history of music videos is crucial in understanding their current trajectory in the age of short-form video content popularized by TikTok. The roots of music videos lie in the traditional broadcast media of MTV, which solidified the music video convention through 24/7 experimentation by commercial artists across genres. As technology advanced, the central hub of music videos transitioned to YouTube, which accommodated videos from the past, present, and future, led by both commercial artists and everyday people. While YouTube remains the central hub due to its perpetuation of traditional video form, it faces fierce competition from TikTok, which caters to the next generation's preference for shorter, vertical content. TikTok's streamlined content creation process, allowing users to record, edit, and distribute content within a decentralized algorithm, has impacted the consumer and producer habits of Generation Z. In this volatile age, the future of music videos is uncertain, but there's a significant chance of a divergence in content: TikTok may become the platform for homegrown content creators, while YouTube may continue to play the role it usurped from MTV for commercial artists and traditional music video formats.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
