Talofa everyone! My name is Fesouaina Pepa but you can call me Ina for short. I grew up on Oahu all my life but I moved around on the west side and a few times on the east side, I have lived in Makaha, Waianae, Maili, Kapolei, Honolulu, and Kalihi. I graduated from Kapolei High School and I transferred from Leeward Community College. An artists tool I would be is a piece of clay, because you can mold clay into anything so long as you have the patience and smooth hands for it. Clay can become anything and I am clay being molded in life every step of the way.
Although the world has different arts, Oceanic Arts are more unique because of how diverse the cultures are, each one containing various values of artforms. Oceania is divided up into three regions; Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. In each region there are a plethora of islands that make up each region. Each tiny island is filled with a unique culture that has a unique art that diversifies themselves from other islands. Each island has art that has a purpose or defines something about their culture. Compared to the modern arts of the US where every modern artist wanted to branch off and create new forms to be unique, Oceania used the same artforms till this day to keep their culture alive without having to invent new waves of art forms.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
