Hi there, I'm Amber Viernes! Before coming to UH West Oʻahu, I graduated from Waipahu High School in 2019 with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts as a part of the Early College program. Now, in Spring 2022, I am graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in General Creative Media. If I were an artist's tool, I would call myself the wild card! I love studying a variety of different art styles and changing my own art accordingly. I like to think that being a wild card allows me to be versatile, and encourages me to find new ways to fall in love with the creative process.
Art does not exist in a vacuum; the authentic quality of a work can be influenced by the environment it is in. This research project aimed to examine how social media can encourage or demote an artist’s pursuit of creating authentic artwork. The research delved into the fundamental structure that shapes social media, and how it has affected the artists and the quality of the work posted. By examining the relationship between social media and authenticity, it will become clear as to why authentic artwork is beneficial to society. As technology is rapidly changing and evolving, it is important to continuously evaluate how usage of social media can benefit or hinder authenticity.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
