Iʻm Tyler. I grew up in Aiea and was homeschooled all the way through high school. I attended Hawaii Tokai International College and Leeward Community College before transferring over to UH West Oahu in 2020. If I were an artist's tool I would be a pencil because pencils are used for creativity and have unending possibilities. I feel like I can relate to this because I have always loved being creative and I feel as though after graduating from the ACM program, I'll be able to do work that has so many different possibilities instead of doing the same thing every day.
Social media and mental health go hand in hand and there are both positive and negative aspects that can be associated between the two. However, while most people understand why they are impacted positively by social media, many do not know why social media affects mental health in such a dangerous way. The purpose of the research done for this paper is to analyze why social media has such a negative impact on mental health through physiological, psychological, and social lenses. Thorough research has found significant associations between social media and mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and more. In addition to this, there are clear connections between social media and other factors that affect mental health such as cyberbullying, addiction, self-harm, suicidal behaviors, and the negative effects that lack of sleep can have on a person both physically and mentally. With social media being a significant part of today’s culture and society, it is more important than ever to understand why it has such a devastating effect on mental health in order to create a culture that can responsibly consume, share, and create using social media.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
