Hello, My name is Isaac Barr. I was born and raised here on Oahu. I was born and raised here on Oahu. Normally during December, my parents would take myself and my older brothers on a trip to California. This was our opportunity to visit family, friends, as well as the popular theme parks. As a kid, my favorite theme park was Universal Studios Hollywood because I enjoyed the back lot tram tours. This allowed me to see the sets of these iconic Universal Studio films like Back to the Future. It was then that I discovered my love for my film and I decided that I one day wanted to become an Oscar winning actor. In high school, I attended Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, where I was a member of our school's morning broadcast and media club named Puka Mai Ka Lā. It was here that I worked as a news anchor, journalist, camera man, and etc. Kamehameha schools allowed me to work with premium film equipment and it prepared me for the setting at the University of Hawaii at West Oahu. While at UH West, I received my major in General Business Administration in December of 2023 and I plan to receive my major in General Creative Media in May of 2024. If I could be any artistsʻ tool, Iʻd be the canvas because the final product reflects who I am as a person and how I view specific topics.
Arthritis is a common health condition among the general public. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 43.5% (23.7 million) of the 58.5 million adults with doctor-diagnosed arthritis have limitations in their usual activities due to their arthritis. (“National Statistics'') Most notably, Arthritis is less common among adults who meet physical activity recommendations (18.1%) compared with adults who are insufficiently active or inactive (23.1% and 23.6%, respectively). (“National Statistics'') Although physical activities such as weight training are recommended, the issue with exercise is that it requires time and training equipment, both of which may be difficult for the average person. To address this, scientific studies and physical trainers on social media have promoted the usage of isometric training, which involves training certain muscles without physically moving the body. Isometric training offers a host of benefits for the human body, including training the muscular system in a timely and effective manner, reducing high blood pressure, and rehabilitating joint-related pain such as arthritis and tendon-related pain such as tendinopathy (formerly known as tendinitis). To showcase my research in a creative manner, I will create a web series on Instagram where each skit features a new isometric exercise. The purpose of the research was to raise awareness for isometric training so that more people can be talking about it.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
