My name is Calvin Jacinto Hill! I was born in Vermont, but I moved around a lot growing up. Some places I've lived include Washington DC, California, and Okinawa. I first moved to Hawai‘i right before starting middle school, and eventually got my Associates from LCC in Liberal Arts before transferring here. If I were an artist's tool, I would be a camera. I like how multiple photographers can look at the same subject but end up with completely different pictures because of things like their angles, type of lens, and post production work.
Social media is a tool that has made marketing and communication easier than ever before. Compared to traditional forms of outreach such as commercials and fliers, social media marketing is cheaper, faster, and can reach a wider audience. Due to their reliance on outreach, community participation, and fundraising, the effectiveness of social media as a tool is especially helpful for nonprofit organizations. The use of social media by nonprofit organizations is growing increasingly more common, so I spent my Capstone reaching out to various nonprofit organizations in Hawai‘i to learn more about them and how they utilize social media.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
