Hi! My name is Aracelis Cervantes-Oyadomari. I was born and raised in Ewa Beach and graduated from James Campbell High school back in 2018. Before graduating I admittedly didn't have a set plan as to what I wanted to do afterwards, and it was because a friend of mine told me she was going to attend Leeward Community College I decided to go as well! It was amazing being apart of the Digital Media program there as it helped me fall back in love with the process of creating art in all forms. After graduating from Leeward in 2021 I transferred here to West O'ahu, and have continued to learn many amazing things from professors with experience in the professional art field and create connections with my classmates! Creation is born from imagination and experience, so even though I've struggled going through a period of not creating art for myself it allowed me to consume media and spend time with friends and fellow classmates who inform me of their unique lives and perspectives to feed into my own creation and inspiration. All I could hope for is to do the same for others, and show that influence in the art that I create now and in the future! If I were an artist's tool, I think I'd be the zoom tool. Something I've noticed in the recent years is that I love to look at the detail in pieces of work that make up the overall picture we see. In movies or shows there are little nods to previous scenes or earlier episodes to create full circles and fleshed out characters, in painted or digital illustrations there are individual strokes and texture to be seen that pulls the complete piece together. It's the technique and thoughtfulness of detail that inspire me, and without that way of being able to admire both the big and small details I wouldn't be able to be the artist I am today.
Artists have evolved in their craft alongside the rise and development of social media platforms, which have given them new ways to develop followers and fans of their works. However, the cost of technology forces them to figure out how to gain exposure to an audience. Researchers such as Joanne Chinen-Moore and Damaris Ramos suggest that artists and small businesses should make use of both traditional and social media marketing strategies to build an online presence. Meanwhile, some current artists with an online following share their experiences in growing their account based on a number of factors rather than utilizing strict marketing skills. It is also an option to purchase online advertising for a smaller price in comparison to larger forms of expensive advertising, but the overall benefits could vary from user to user. With social media in a constant state of updating and developing, it is challenging to say if there will ever be a concrete way for artists to build an audience outside of perseverance and determination.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
