Hello, my name is Zachary Alan Kim. I grew up in Aiea, Hawaii. I graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute and transferred from H.C.C. under their MELE Program (Audio Engineering). If I were an artists tool, I’d choose to be a drum, because no matter how hard I’m struck, I will always bounce back.
Music is everywhere- in cars, stores, social media, and much more. However, music is often overlooked. Most people will just put on a set of headphones without thinking about the benefits music provides them with. Nonetheless, individuals can’t live a day without music. It provides enrichment to an audience and creates a safe space. Through music, it can help with overcoming emotions and expressing them. This qualitative analysis approach is designed to collect a better understanding of the benefits of music that can be shown in three different parts- mental health, self-expression, and community building. The literature review illustrate the importance of music in today’s world. It proves that music is a great way for mental stimulation. It also shows positive effects on our brain through specialized neurotransmitters such as dopamine and oxytocin, that assist in positive emotions.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
