My name is Micah Niinuma. I was born and raised here on the Island of Oahu and graduated from ‘Iolani School in 2017. Growing up on the islands I have always held a deep appreciation for water and the beauty of nature. I grew a passion for photography and videography from my love and appreciation for making memories. I believe one of the greatest experiences in life is the ability to relive precious moments when looking at old photos and videos. I aspire to create and share those precious moments with others. I will be graduating with BA in Creative Media with a concentration in General Creative Media. If I were an artist's tool i'd be a polaroid for two reasons. One, as I mentioned nothing beats the ability to relive precious moments in your life whether it's from the perspective of you yourself or a friend, maybe even a stranger that takes the photo for you. Two, personally a polaroid photo enhances the emotions when looking at a photo from a polaroid versus on your phone. I think being able to physically hold the photo and to know that nothing was edited or altered makes everything about the photo more "real".
T.E. Jessop, a British Academic, said that "the story of the mental genesis of beauty is not aesthetics.” He goes on to discuss how “beauty” for him, was not a thing but a certain state. This research project delves into human perspective of beauty.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
