Hi! My name is Carter Kurashima. I grew up on Kapolei, Oahu for a good majority of my life. I attended at Kapolei High School which was the first time I was introduced to Digital Media. I then graduated on Summer 2019 and enrolled at the University of Hawai‘i - West O‘ahu at Fall 2019. If I were an artistʻs tool, I can imagine myself being a pencil if I were an artist's tool. My creative process tends to be scattered and messy which helps me get all of my ideas out on paper. Having everything down gives me a good idea on what direction I want my project to take.
Online art portfolio advice centers on showcasing originality, versatility, and artistic evolution. This project defines these terms and examines their manifestation in portfolios through analyzed works. Reviewed portfolios reveal a job-oriented focus on appealing to external viewers rather than inward creative reflection. While this strategy prioritizes commercial success, deemphasizing process reflection omits the personal growth facet of portfolios for burgeoning artists. The research delineates portfolio objectives and investigates how diverse artists incorporate advised themes. However, the predominant outward approach sidelines introspection on one's creative journey. Illumniating this imbalance enables more holistic portfolio-building, aligning external appeal with internal cultivation.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
