Iʻm Angelynne. I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and for the most part, raised in Waipahu. In my childhood, I traveled a lot with my family. After graduating from Waipahu High School in 2013, I took some time to explore myself and my career choices. It wasn't until the fall of 2016 that I realized my passion, grouped with other creative individuals in an art class who wanted to make art for their living. It took me back to the first time my high school physics teacher had handed me a manual. He asked if I wanted to try making android apps after discovering my skills with adobe programs when creating prototypes of insulation builds. Getting closer to high school graduation, he had asked if I wanted him to write me a letter of recommendation to MIT. I laughed at that thought. Why have I never realized it? From the times I spent creating invitations and blog layouts since the age of 10, the compliments I received for creative works, to the first time I ever won an art contest in the 4th grade. It was just a hobby, or so my family made me think. What was once just a hobby had become my passion. I took the leap and enrolled in the new media arts program at Kapi'olani Community College and fell in love with the world of design. As cliché as this may sound... If I were an artist's tool, I'd be the vision because it helps you determine your work. Without the artist's notion, the other supplies or tools one may use wouldn't matter. You can use any material or medium to create your work, but you can't go anywhere without an overall vision. It's like starting with a blank piece of paper and a pencil where you begin referencing, brainstorming ideas, and/or setting up goals. This is the vision, the problem solver, the kick to the end goal.
Typography is as important as the overall design because it helps direct the viewer's interest; it is the art of setting characters and letters on a page to convey a message to your reader. The message can convey meaning or result in emotions from the viewer due to the choice and style of typography used. Careful consideration of the medium where the typography exists also determines the power of the message. All design elements come with guidelines and sets of rules and recommendations that we may feel restricted in our creative output, but these restrictions are not made to limit us. The information there is for designers' thoughts and considerations to think outside of the box and produce something unique and innovative that designers can expand boundaries despite the written rules. Typography is a tool for businesses to show and express art and intricate ideas differently, one that a simple image cannot convey.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
