My name is Justin Angelo Giann Agudo. I grew up in Ewa Beach, I went to James Campbell High School. My creative journey started in 2018. I was fresh out of high school, mentally preparing myself for the new experience that was college. I can still remember the day I first walked onto campus, and that I also registered for classes late. Leaving me with only four classes to attend instead of five. Iʻll be graduating with my BA in CM. If I were an artist's tool, I'd be a pen because I carry a pen around everywhere I go because there's always something to write down, something to describe whatever I see, or write down words that hold great meaning, whatever inspires me or makes me think, I write it down.
Science Fiction is a unique genre that is versatile. It contains many subgenres that hold complex concepts. Writers of Science fiction allow readers to explore their humanity in various ways through advanced technologies, aspects of their psychology, along with spiritually. Apocalyptic fiction appeals to humanity’s need to explore world ending concepts and the very real possibilities our current technology will make this planet uninhabitable. Hard science fiction focuses on realism through scientific accuracy and logic, whereas soft science fiction places more emphasis on characters and story development through social sciences. Space opera showcases massive settings that bring about a unique sense of wonder and exploration. Cyberpunk takes a darker turn and focuses on existentialism, questioning where the limits of our mind and bodies differentiate or become one and the same. Solarpunk shows where we can use science and technology for the betterment of ourselves and our planet. My research focuses on these subgenres and how writers create stories that reflect the complexity of human life.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
