My name is Sanako Saito. I was born and raised in Saitama, Japan. I attended high school in Japan for half a year and then moved to Hawai'i and went to Kalani High School. After high school, I went to Kapiʻolani Community College. That is where I started doing design. I was in Liberal Arts for the first two years and finished with New Media Arts Interface Design for the last two and a half years. I transferred to UH West O‘ahu in Spring 2020 for further education and here I am. If I was a artistʻs tool, I would be a printer. Printers these days have more than a printing function, such as copying, scanning, and book binding. Printers can input (scan) what they see just like how I look through the reference and get some inspiration and they can create (print out) something very nice. Printers are flexible because they can use various types and sizes of papers, but they are also vagary and hard to work with sometimes like me. Even my room is often messy; however, I like organizing and book binding needs organizing skill. The main ink set is CMYK, but some printers have RGB. This means we are capable of both printed and digital work. Those are the reasons why a printer is a perfect match for me.
Bilingualism means to be able to use two languages. In Hawai‘i, where many races are mixed up more equally, there are many multilingual people. Hawai‘i’s economy highly depends on tourism and to that point there are many tourists coming from foreign countries every year. It is important to know more about bilingualism and international companies in Hawai‘i to be successful in this kind of place. This project discusses the characteristics of the bilingual workers and designers, demand of bilingual individuals in Hawai‘i, international design companies in Hawaii, and documents to prepare for bilingual people.
The practicum is a planned, supervised, and evaluated practice experience. The goal of the practicum is to provide an opportunity for the student to synthesize, integrate, and apply practical skills, knowledge, and training learned through courses, to gain professional experience in a professional work environment, and to work on creative media projects that revolve around the research they conducted in the prior semester.
Practicum placements are individually selected and therefore, the focus, substance, and approach of the practicum will vary, depending on the studentʻs concentration and the specific interests, research goals, and professional objectives.
