Hello! Iʻm Janalene Tumaneng. I was born and raised in Waipahu. I first got into performing arts when I was 5 because I wanted to be a singer and did other things such as acting and dancing. Once I went to Waipahu Intermediate, I turned towards behind the scene action and was apart of, then known as, WISkids Productions where I got into film and editing. After graduating from Waipahu high school, I majored in Humanities before switching to this current major where I learned and explored the different realms of design such as web, UX/UI (I have professional certificate from NYU that I took on the side), sound design, animation, and graphics. My artist's tool would be a camera because I like doing visual concepts and photographs are a great way to remember things.
Cultural artifacts showcase the past of an individual or group. Thorough analysis of artifacts illustrates the progress human beings have made throughout history. This essay examines cultural artifacts and their influences upon Hawaii’s local culture through comparing the material culture of the plantation era and current era. Hawaii’s plantation era recruited the work of laborers from different cultures who brought items from their homelands. It is evident through these items that immigrants have adjusted their way into a new society and eventually created a new type of culture because of their integration. This era has acted as the beginning of Hawaii’s modern local culture. This reveals the social ability of human beings and how they continue to adapt.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
