Hello, Iʻm Gabbie. I was born in San Diego, California, but moved to Hawaiʻi at around 4 years old. I grew up on Oʻahu’s west side, living in Ewa, Salt Lake, and finally Kapolei. I graduated from Radford High School, where I discovered my passion for graphic design through creative media classes. Designing for the school brought me joy, and I’m grateful to have continued on this path, still pursuing graphic design today. If I were an artist’s tool, I would be the pencil tool. The pencil tool allows you to do so many things and expand on your creativity. It allows you to create shapes that you want, allows you to add onto a graphic, allows you to take a way, and create illustrations. It is one of the tools I love to use especially when I am working with illustrations or when I want to customize a text.
This ressearch examines the mental health challenges faced by indigenous communities, such as Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, and their limited access to resources. Organizations like IMUA Health Group incorporate cultural elements into mental health practices, helping patients connect with their identity, shape values, and improve engagement. Cultural integration is particularly beneficial for youths in developmental stages struggling with identity. Promoting culturally aware mental health services aims to raise awareness of resource scarcity, encourage the growth of support providers, and inspire organizations to adopt culturally integrated practices.
The practicum is a planned, supervised, and evaluated practice experience. The goal of the practicum is to provide an opportunity for the student to synthesize, integrate, and apply practical skills, knowledge, and training learned through courses, to gain professional experience in a professional work environment, and to work on creative media projects that revolve around the research they conducted in the prior semester.
Practicum placements are individually selected and therefore, the focus, substance, and approach of the practicum will vary, depending on the studentʻs concentration and the specific interests, research goals, and professional objectives.
