Hi! My name is Evan Linegar. I grew up in Northern California (Willits and Healdsburg) graduating from Healdsburg High School. I did one semester at Santa Rosa Junior College before transferring to Leeward Community College, then UH West O‘ahu. If I were an artist's tool I would be a pair of headphones because I am detail oriented and I love listening quality sound.
This capstone explores the use of new technologies in media, and how they have changed the landscape. The democratization (accessibility) of these technologies are discussed, as well as how they encourage a shift to a DIY industry. The impact these technologies have had on traditional media and studio production are analyzed. The traditional approach has blended with the DIY approach, which has resulted in a hybridized method to media production. Other topics such as the use of automation in the industry, media literacy, organizational changes, and consumer expectations are also explored to give a more comprehensive overview of the landscape. A brief suggestion of a solution to successfully blending traditional media with new media technologies is offered in the concluding paragraphs.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
Evan’s capstone proves that in today’s media landscape, making content is just the beginning—accessibility and engagement are equally vital. His multi-platform podcast, produced for Spotify, extended beyond audio by integrating social media highlights and full episodes on YouTube, creating a more inclusive and interactive experience. Grounded in research on how new technologies have democratized media production and reshaped traditional workflows, Evan explored the rise of DIY content creation, automation, and shifting audience expectations. His project reflects a hybrid approach that blends traditional media values with today’s accessible, tech-driven possibilities.
