Hi! My name is Theo. I grew up in Pearl City and Ewa Beach. I attended Pearl City High School and later attended Leeward Community College to which I transferred over to here, UHWO. If I were an artist’s tool, I think I’d be a palette because there are all sorts of colors to choose from which means there’s so many different opportunities to grab ahold of.
The resesarch examined the rising prominence of the South Korean film industry and how Korean films and directors are reshaping the global cinematic landscape. It highlights recent acclaimed Korean films like Squid Game and Parasite that have found enormous worldwide success. The essay argues that as Hollywood has become less creative in its storytelling, Korean films have filled this void with their unique aesthetics, uncompromising narratives, and boundary-pushing themes. The writing focuses considerable attention on director Bong Joon-ho, the first Korean in history to win the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director for Parasite. Bong's critical acclaim and influence as an auteur director has raised the profile of Korean cinema internationally. Overall, the essay makes the case that the Korean film industry, buoyed by visionary and daring directors like Bong, is elevating world cinema artistically and commercially while ending Hollywood's monopoly over the medium. The essay underscores how Korean filmmaking points the way forward for the future of global cinema.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
