My name is Anastazia McIntosh. For as long as I could remember I grew up on the Waianae Coast of Oahu both in Māʻili and Nānākuli. My alumni Highschool is Kapolei High School. I began my college life at the University of Hawaii Leeward Community College with my Associate in Science in Television Production. The artist tool that I would consider myself to be is DSLR Camera. The DSLR Camera allows for moments of life to be captured, cherished and told stories that are interpreted in our own way through stills.
The native tongue has different meanings to different words and phrases that are verbally said. The word Lahui has three different meanings. On the Wehewehe website, the word Lahui is defined as an individual's nationality and race. When used to describe protest, the word Lahui means to assemble or to gather for the greater purpose at hand. On the UH Hilo website, lahui is considered to be our form of a tribe. For the purpose of this research project, the meaning of building up a lahui means to have a community come together to create a change to improve a given situation that has occurred in their own communities. Within the last few years, the call of different forms of protest has risen, not just in the Native Hawaiian community, but also Lahui on a global scale. When asked what does it mean to build up a strong Lahui, a reply to that is that the community amplify the impact that they have on the Lahui and leaders, help to push members of the Lahui in a positive way, and to create a basic trust with key individuals to an interactive organization (Kamehameha Schools). Some of the events that occurred that had a large impact on the Native Hawaiian Community is the outbreak of Covid 19, the telescope issue on Mauna Kea, both past and present, the wind boggling of the Ku Kia’i Kahuku, bombing on Kahoʻolawe water table, the unlawful overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy, and the outburst of measles/other foreign diseases that led to mass deaths of the native population. These tragic events severely affected the Native Hawaiian Communities by creating a form of conflict amongst the lahui towards local government. Challenges that the lahui continue to go through include domestic violence, mental abuse, substance use amongst keiki as well as our adolescence, constant battle with our government, the form of education that children are receiving, and growing rise of homelessness numbers.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
