Hey, my name's Cory Abuel, I grew up in Kaneohe. I attended James B. Castle High School with a Cum Laude award. I was transferred from Windward Community College [WCC]. If I was an artist's tool, I would be a knife. For artists, knives are used to spread the paint across the canvas to make it more detailed. To me, I like detail as much as the next person.
This research examines vidding, a fan-based video editing practice that reinterprets existing media and has become a meaningful part of contemporary pop culture. The study provides a clear overview of vidding’s history and highlights the editing techniques—such as rhythm, visual emphasis, and thematic sequencing—that make these videos emotionally compelling and creatively transformative. Video examples are used to demonstrate how fan editors reshape narratives and deepen audience engagement. The project also explores the legal complexities surrounding vidding, focusing on issues of ownership, transformative use, and fair use. By analyzing how vid creators navigate copyright restrictions, the research shows that vidding can function as a legitimate form of remix art that offers commentary and new perspectives on original works. Despite limited academic sources, the study draws on video analyses and editing practice to illustrate vidding’s significance. Ultimately, it demonstrates that vidding is a technically skilled, culturally relevant form of participatory media.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
